Sony halts production of four PS4 models
With the release of the PS5, Sony decides to stop production of several models of PS4
Stocks of four PS4 models will no longer be refloated
With the release of the PlayStation 5 last December, you had to know it. Sony has decided to stop production of several PS4 models, in order to focus on its new generation of console. Four PlayStation 4 models are affected by this production stoppage, namely the PS4 500 GB Glacier White, the PS4 1TB, the PS4 2 To Jet Black and the PS4 Pro 1 To Glacier White. Only the Jet Black 500GB version will continue to be produced for a while, Sony Interactive Entertainment told Japanese media outlet Game Watch.
This does not mean the death of the console, whose first model was released in 2013. It will still be possible to obtain one, but it will depend only on the stocks of suppliers and stores. Sony will no longer produce new copies. As for the current owners of a PlayStation 4, there is no reason to worry. Your console will continue to work and new video games will also be released on this one, including Far Cry 6, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizons Forbidden West or Hitman 3.
Make way for the next generation
Sony's decision to draw a line under the production of several PS4 models is not surprising, even though the Japanese manufacturer had assured that it wanted to continue with the PS4 for several more years.
This should still allow Sony to focus on the production of PlayStation 5. Launched in December 2020, Sony's next-gen console was a huge success, recording the biggest launch in the history of consoles in the United States, according to the Japanese firm. Unfortunately, the stocks at its release were not enough, so the console is in short supply all over the world. The halting production of several PS4 models should allow Sony to put the finishing touches in the production of PS5.
